Concert Lighting is the most comprehensive guide on lighting design for concerts. This book presents the art and craft of rock and roll concert lighting so clearly that the reader can get inside the designer's head and see how and why choices of color, placement, and movement are made. Moody takes the reader 'on tour,' covering every aspect of that experience for the touring professional lighting technician and designer. Several chapters are devoted to cross-media use of concert lighting techniques. Discussions of the applications of specific techniques for film, video, theatre, and corporate productions demonstrate the ways in which today's lighting designers use their tools and skills in other fields.
This new edition has been thoroughly updated to include new sections on computer-aided drafting, moving lights, hi-bred consoles, rigging safety, and special effects. More insight is given to how top-name tour deigners feel about the business and their own designs. These designers' discussions - augmented with plans and photos of recent projects - offer insight to the problems, the solutions, and the human side of designing.
Concert Lighting is written by a working professional who speaks from long experience. He is able to give students a wonderfully frank perspective into this field, as well as illustrate techniques that professional designers may use for their own projects.
One of the industry's early practitioners, James Moody has designed concert lighting for more than 40 artists and 150 tours. He is also an award-winning designer for TV, theatre, film, and corporate productions. His work has been a major influence on styles of live and recorded performance lighting. Currently, he is the Director of Photography for the very popular syndicated TV series Wheel of Fortune. Most recently, he was recognized for his 'outstanding contribution to the theatre and the work if the Institute,' by being named "A Fellow of the Institute," by the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT).
