Visual Terrain Shines at Lumen West 2004
June 29, 2004

Van Nuys, CA – Visual Terrain Inc was recently honored at the Illuminating Engineering Society of Los Angeles Lumen West Awards 2004.

Jeremy Windle and light artist Michael Davis received an Award of Excellence for the lighting design of the Art Wall at the Santa Monica Public Safety Building in Santa Monica, California. In addition, Windle and Eileen Thomas were recipients of a 2004 Award of Merit for the GameWorks-Long Beach in Long Beach, California.

“It’s always fun to do something unconventional and to have recognition from your peers is all the more gratifying”, remarked the designers after receiving their awards.

Both projects were challenging and unique. Windle found that creating the art wall was substantially different than revealing the art. “ So much of what we do is functional yet, in this case, the lighting was strictly artistic”, he stated. “Working with a renowned artist at the national level such as Michael Davis was quite rewarding”.

GameWorks, Long Beach marked the fifteenth entertainment center designed by Thomas. “Each project has it’s own demands giving a fresh approach to each design. This GameWorks introduced a new venue to the traditional design with a multifunctional space that can easily be transformed from a dance club to a corporate meeting room”, explains Thomas.

The Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) is the recognized technical authority on illumination. The Lumen West Awards are presented in conjunction with the International Illumination Design Awards (IIDA), a program of the IESNA.
