| Visual Terrain illuminates the new Morongo Casino Resort and Spa December 17, 2004 Van Nuys, CA – Visual Terrain, Inc. is proud to announce the completion of the lighting design and project opening for the new Morongo Casino Resort and Spa in Cabazon, California. Inspired by its location among the picturesque mountain ranges, wind and water-carved canyons and desert sunshine, the new casino is an architectural and illumination tribute to the California desert.  Keeping with the color scheme of the surrounding landscape, Visual Terrain designers worked with The Jerde Partnership to develop a color palette that reflected the beauty of the natural terrain in this stunning desert oasis. The 27-story hotel tower makes a dramatic architectural statement and can be seen from up to 5 miles away. Principal-incharge Dawn Hollingsworth comments, “We developed a solid concept to address the architect’s desire for the building to animate. The color palette is specifically restricted to those colors found in the natural light of sunrise, sunset and daylight.” Matt Levesque, the senior project designer responsible for the exterior lighting, created a media show that can be viewed from dusk to dawn daily. Levesque continues, “The goal was to attract the attention of arriving guests, announcing that here, they are about to experience the ultimate in fun, relaxation and entertainment. The curtain wall at the top of the tower employs video and stylized graphics to depict the organic elements of nature, while the tower itself is washed with automated lighting to create a unified image.” The Casino’s interiors are accented by the dramatic architectural ceiling design.  “The floor of the casino was actually driven by the ceiling design. Our goal was to integrate the practical requirements of lighting with design aesthetic to create a stunning visual impact”, commented Project Manager and Associate Principal, Eileen Thomas. The resort, just west of Palm Springs has 310 rooms, restaurants, casino, nightclub, spa, a unique complex of swimming pools and private cabanas. |
