Location: Fort Edmonton Park, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Opened: August 2011

This recreation of Edmonton’s Capitol Theatre houses a multimedia attraction entitled “Northern Light,” a retelling of Edmonton’s history through theatrical layering of scrims, lighting effects, front and rear projections, plus in-theatre special effects.

Each of the 243 seats feature spectacular panoramic views of the three main screens, immersive imagery, and 360-degree soundscapes. Theatrical lighting is crucial to the blending of the onscreen story throughout the entire audience chamber.

Visual Terrain is responsible for the interior and exterior architectural lighting of the theatre and the theatrical lighting for the 4-D multimedia film.

In this image, projections make up the left, right and center screens, while a scenic train element moves across the stage with real steam effects coming from the stack. The train and steam are theatrically lit to blend with the projection.
