Description: The Oneida Gallery at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian hoses a sculpture called “Allies in War, Partners in Peace,” a gift from the Oneida Indian Nation of New York in 2004. The 20-foot tall bronze work commemorates the alliance between the Oneida Nation and the United States during the Revolutionary War, and depicts president George Washington along with Oneida chief Shenandoah, and Oneida woman Polly Cooper. It includes small symbolic elements of special relevancy to the history of the Oneida peole.
